TEMPERATUREThe temperature tests are performed to determine if objects can operate normally under various temperature conditions, such as high and low temperature, temperature cycling, and temperature shock. HIGH TEMPERATUREHigh temperature testing evaluates the effect of high temperature conditions on material safety, integrity, and performance. High temperature testing may be used to evaluate time-dependent performance degradation effects that occur during constant exposure to high temperatures.
LOW TEMPERATURELow temperature testing evaluates the effect of low temperature conditions on material safety, integrity, and performance. Low temperature testing may be used to evaluate time-dependent performance degradation effects that occur during constant exposure to low temperatures.
TEMPERATURE CYCLINGThe test is conducted for the purpose of determining the effect on a part of repeated cyclic exposures to extremes of high and low temperatures for comparatively short periods of time. It may or may not be required that the specimens reach thermal stability at the temperature of the test chamber during the short exposure time specified. Permanent changes in operating characteristics and physical damage produced during temperature cycling result principally from variations in dimensions and other physical property degradation produced during temperature cycling.
TEMPERATURE SHOCKThis test is conducted to determine the resistance of a part to a sudden exposure at extremes of high or low temperatures, and to the shock of alternate exposures to these extremes, such as would be experienced when equipment or parts are transferred to and from heated shelters in arctic areas. The conditions may also be encountered in equipment operated non-continuously in low-temperature areas or during transportation. Permanent changes in operating characteristics and physical damage produced during thermal shock result principally from variations in dimensions and other physical properties. Temperature testing is specified in the following: MIL-PRF-27, MIL-T-27, MIL-STD-202, MIL-STD-210, MIL-STD-454, MIL-J-641, MIL-STD-705, MIL-STD-750, MIL-STD-781, MIL-STD-798, MIL-STD-810, MIL-I-983, MIL-STD-1344, MIL-STD-2036, MIL-STD-3885, MIL-S-3928, MIL-E-5272, MIL-E-5400, MIL-T-5422, MIL-P-7788, MIL-F-7872, MIL-V-7899, MIL-T-7928, MIL-M-7969, MIL-A-8064, MIL-K-8144, MIL-R-8236, MIL-C-8384, MIL-E-8595, MIL-F-8615, MIL-S-8805, MIL-V-8813, MIL-B-8942, MIL-G-10228, MIL-C-11015, MIL-R-11050, MIL-R-11539, MIL-I-11804, MIL-I-11867, MIL-R-12934, MIL-R-13312, MIL-C-13486, MIL-F-13926, MIL-C-14409, MIL-C-14806, MIL-C-15024, MIL-A-15303, MIL-T-15514, MIL-F-15733, MIL-H-16313, MIL-F-16377, MIL-E-16400, MIL-R-16999, MIL-M-17060, MIL-T-17275, MIL-T-17301, MIL-V-17360, MIL-V-17547, MIL-V-17639, MIL-P-17840, MIL-V-18110, MIL-F-18327, MIL-T-18404, MIL-R-18546, MIL-H-18766, MIL-F-18870, MIL-V-19068, MIL-E-19100, MIL-S-19500, MIL-R-19648, MIL-I-20037, MIL-S-20708, MIL-R-21098, MIL-D-21625, MIL-S-22432, MIL-V-22687, MIL-D-22706, MIL-R-22732, MIL-B-23071, MIL-C-23200, MIL-B-23306, MIL-B-23398, MIL-D-23615, MIL-A-23806, MIL-A-23836, MIL-L-23886, MIL-P-23928, MIL-P-24041, MIL-L-24223, MIL-C-24308, MIL-P-24423, MIL-V-24509, MIL-T-28800, MIL-E-39029, MIL-C-48497, MIL-H-83511, MIL-S-008834, MIL-T-0014358, SAE J-2031, UL-213, UL-1203, ASTM E-644-91, ASTM D832-64, ASTM F1387-99, NEMA 250-1997, SCL-7695, SCL-7722, RTCA/DO-160, UL-427, UL-471, UL-472, UL-560, UL-583, UL-588, UL-606, UL-681, UL-698, UL-1203, TR-NWT-000063, TA-NWT-000487, ASTM D-1053-92, GR-487-CORE, NAVMAT P-9492
