FLUID CONTAMINATION

Fluid contamination testing determines the abilities of materials to withstand the contaminating fluids, to which they are exposed in service.

CONTAMINATION
This test is used to determine if material is affected by exposure to contaminating fluids such as may be encountered during its life cycle, either occasionally, intermittently, or over extended periods. The method of contamination by fluids test is used when there is a high probability of fluid contamination during the life cycle of the material. Contamination may arise from exposure to fuels, hydraulic fluids, lubricating oils, solvents, and cleaning fluids, de-icing anti-freeze fluids, runway de-icers, insecticides, disinfectants, coolant dielectric fluid, fire extinguishing agents, etc.

RESISTANCE TO SOLVENTS
The purpose of this test is to verify that markings or color-coding will not become illegible or discolored on component parts such as printed-wiring and terminal-board assemblies, etc, when subjected to solvents normally used to clean solder flux, fingerprints, and other contaminants.
